Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in China recently completed bunkering operations of liquefied natural gas (LNG), green methanol and B24 biofuel for international vessels on the same day, marking a first for the country, according to Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration (MSA).

The operation took place on 30 September across the port’s Chuanshan, Meishan and Daxie port areas. The LNG bunkering vessel Hai Yang Shi You 302, methanol bunkering vessel Zhong Ran Lv Neng 85 and B24 biofuel bunkering vessel Si Jie 21 supplied approximately 7,400 cubic metres (m3) of LNG, 7,500 metric tonnes (mt) of green methanol and 3,000 mt of B24 biofuel, respectively.

The methanol delivery by Zhong Ran Lv Neng 85 also set a new record for the largest single methanol bunkering operation in Zhejiang province, according to Ningbo MSA.

Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has expanded its alternative fuel bunkering operations over the past year. In September 2025, it completed Zhejiang’s first 222 mt green methanol bunkering operation using tank trucks. This was followed by a 503 mt ship-to-ship delivery in April 2026, with volumes exceeding 5,000 mt in August before reaching approximately 7,500 mt in September.

The port has also recorded growth in LNG and biofuel bunkering. Since launching Zhejiang’s first LNG bunkering pilot in June 2023, it has completed more than 100 LNG bunkering operations for international vessels, with cumulative deliveries exceeding 500,000 m3.

Since completing its first biofuel bunkering operation for an international vessel in March 2025, the port has carried out 62 operations, supplying more than 150,000 mt of biofuel. Ningbo MSA said the port’s biofuel bunkering volume ranks first nationally.
