Spanish bunker service provider Mureloil on Saturday (28 February) said it has launched diesel-electric hybrid chemical tanker Bahía Beatriz, prepared for the transport and supply of new marine fuels such as methanol, ethanol and biofuels.
The ceremony for the vessel, chartered by Repsol, was held at the facilities of Murueta Shipyard in Erandio, Spain.
It is the third vessel of its kind in Mureloil’s fleet and the seventh of the supply vessels to be operated by the company. The other two are Bahía Levante, operational from December 2022, and Bahía Candela, which is scheduled for commissioning this spring.
“In addition, it has been approved with the class notation ‘bunker methanol’, being the first of its kind in Spain,” the company said in a social media post.
The key features of the tanker include 12 tanks with an approximate capacity of 8,000 m³ plus two extras, diesel-electric propulsion, battery energy storage system and ability to perform bunkering operations in 100% electric mode.
Jose Luis Caraballo, Managing Director of Mureloil, said: “This new project highlights our commitment to excellence, based on knowledge and experience in the fuel supply sector, from design and construction to operation.”
