Singapore: Global Energy Trading details methanol bunkering journey following licence award

Singapore-based bunker supplier Global Energy Trading Pte Ltd (GET) on Wednesday (26 November) said its journey into methanol bunkering took the first step in 2023 with a ship building contract signed in Japan.
It kicked off in 2024 with the delivery of the company’s first two units of IMO type II chemical tankers, MAPLE and KARA.
GET is one of the three companies that will receive a licence by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to supply methanol as a marine fuel in the Port of Singapore. The methanol bunkering licence is valid for five years, commencing from 1 January 2026.
The other two companies are Golden Island Pte Ltd, and PetroChina International (Singapore) Pte Ltd.
The company said the three were picked from a pool of 13 applicants.
“Since taking delivery of the tankers, we have conducted various trial supplies of methanol in Singapore and at Malaysian ports,” GET said in a statement.
“Together with other industry players, we have gathered valuable first-hand experience from handling and supply operations to vessels at the anchorage and to container ships simultaneously during the cargo operations.”
GET has handled bio-methanol, blended bio-methanol and conventional methanol, with the largest parcel at 3,000 metric tonnes (mt).
The Group said it will be taking deliveries of another two units of 8000 DWT tankers in 2026. In the updated design, the ship will have stainless steel tanks for the optimum carriage and storage of methanol.
“While a higher cubic capacity space would ensure the ship to achieve a bigger throughput. This new design also incorporates special features to improve fuel efficiencies.”
