Singapore-headquartered independent common carrier X-Press Feeders on Monday (21 August) said it launched its first ever dual-fuel vessel Eco Maestro in China.

The feeder ship, built by New Dayang Shipbuilding Company, was launched at the China shipyard.

“Feeder ships like the Eco Maestro play a vital role in getting goods across countries, and each trip from port to port contributes significantly to global carbon emissions,” the firm said in a social media post.

“Powered by dual-fuel engines that can switch between conventional fuel and green methanol, the Eco Maestro stands as a testament to our commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. We’re proud to be the first independent common carrier company globally to introduce dual-fuel ships,” it said.

X-Press Feeders said the ship will undergo machinery tests in the coming months before it embarks on its  first voyage in Europe in Q2 2024.

“With all 14 such dual-fuel ships to be in full deployment by Q3 2026, we look forward to working with our partners to lead the change towards a greener and cleaner shipping industry,” it added.

Manifold Times previously reported OCI Hyfuels will supply X-Press Feeders with green methanol in the Port of Rotterdam from 2024.

In June, Eastaway, a member of the X-Press Feeders Group, announced ordering six new 1,250 TEU container vessels, fitted with ultra-modern, dual-fuel engines capable of operating on conventional fuel and methanol.

The vessels will join in the ranks of Eastaway’s managed fleet and will be operated by X-Press Feeders.
