Skippers of the vessels pleaded guilty and were fined MYR 20,000 (USD 4,708) by Judge Zahilah Binti Mohammad Yusoff at the Kota Tinggi Courthouse, it said.

The two vessels were detained by the MMEA on 11 February when they were discovered to have committed multiple offences about 3.5 nautical miles south of Tanjung Penyusop.

The suspects were  found guilty of violating  section 361 (6) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952, having failed to produce the appropriate insurance documentation during the inspections.
