Venture Energy, a subsidiary of Hong Kong shipowner Wah Kwong Maritime Transport, and Shanghai Shenji Energy & Environmental Technology (Shenji Energy) on Monday (13 April) jointly announced a strategic collaboration and signed a green methanol procurement and supply agreement.
Under the agreement, Venture Energy will purchase ISCC EU-certified green methanol from Shenji Energy that fully complies with the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED). The first shipment is scheduled for delivery and loading in the first half of 2026.
Produced from sustainable biomass feedstocks including municipal waste, crop straw, and livestock manure, this green methanol delivers significant carbon-reduction benefits. These environmental attributes enable downstream shipping clients to meet stringent regulatory requirements, including the EU ETS (Emission Trade Scheme) and the FuelEU Maritime Regulation.
Leveraging the shipping resources of its parent company, Wah Kwong Maritime Transport, and Hong Kong’s strategic geographical advantage, Venture Energy will act as a bridge between clean fuels in China and end users around the world.
Venture Energy’s value offering also extends to supply-chain services, providing an end-to-end solution for producers seeking to supply customers at key bunkering ports across Asia from plants in the Mainland China.
Shenji Energy, with its expertise in biomass energy utilisation, supplies high-quality ISCC-certified biomethanol.
The partnership extends beyond pure product supply, encompassing full-chain collaboration on biogas feedstock and green-fuel ISCC certificates. This establishes a practical, fully traceable framework for the standardised trading of green marine fuels.
