Dry cargo specialist Spliethoff Group recently completed its first biofuel trial which took place between June and November in 2021 on BigLift Shipping B.V.’s HTV BigLift Baffin, according to a Thursday (27 January) social media post from biofuel bunker producer GoodFuels.
The ship was supplied with a blend of 50% GoodFuels MDF1 – a second-generation biofuel, made from waste and residue streams – and 50% conventional heavy fuel oil (HFO).
“Spliethoff’s objective for this trial was to test if biofuel would be suitable for use, as yet in combination with HFO, and to determine whether the biofuel could be stored in a bunker tank for a minimum period of six months,” shared GoodFuels.
“The results of this trial were positive on both points!”
