Singapore: Vietnam-flagged tanker “GT Unity” arrested again, bulk carrier also detained

Vietnam-flagged oil and chemical tanker GT Unity was arrested for the third time in Singapore waters on Wednesday (6 December). 

The 7,631 DWT vessel was added to the list of vessels under Sheriff’s arrest in Singapore’s court system. 

According to the list, the vessel was arrested at 4.05pm and the arresting solicitor listed was law firm Resource Law LLC. The ship is currently held at Helios Berth 4 in Jurong Island. 

No further details regarding the reason behind the arrest were provided in the list. 

Manifold Times previously reported GT Unity was arrested in the republic on 10 March and 11 October

Meanwhile, Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier Circle Harmony was placed under Sheriff’s arrest at 4.05pm on 9 December.  The ship is currently held at Eastern Anchorage and the arresting solicitor listed was law firm Helmsman LLC.

Malaysia: MMEA detains two cargo vessels for illegal anchoring in Mersing waters

Further inspection found that one of the ships was operated by 12 crew members, all Vietnamese citizens, while the other had 11 crew members who were also Vietnamese citizens.

Malaysia: MMEA detains two cargo vessels for illegal anchoring in Mersing waters

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Thursday (8 February) said two cargo vessels were detained for illegally anchoring at 7.3 nautical miles position northwest of Pulau Pemanggil on 7 February.

MMEA Mersing Zone Comm Maritime Suhaizan Saadin said the ships, registered from a neighbouring country, were detained by a MMEA patrol boat that was conducting routine patrols around the waters of Mersing.

He said the captain of the ship failed to produce relevant documents permitting the ship to anchor in Malaysian waters.

Further inspection also found that one of the ships was operated by 12 crew members, all Vietnamese citizens, while the other had 11 crew members who were also Vietnamese citizens. 

The case is being investigated for an offence under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952, which carries a fine of not more than RM100,000, a jail term of not more than two years, or both, upon conviction

The captains and chief engineers of the ships were detained and transported to the Mersing Maritime Zone for further investigations.

A Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier, Prosperity 102, was arrested in Singapore waters on Wednesday (24 January). 

The 47,180 DWT vessel added to the list of vessels under Sheriff’s arrest in Singapore’s court system. 

According to the list, the vessel was arrested at 10.37am and the arresting solicitor listed was law firm Helmsman LLC. The ship is currently held at Singapore’s Eastern Anchorage. 

No details regarding the reason behind the arrest were provided in the list. 

According to maritime analytics provider Marine Traffic, the vessel was built in 1997, 27 years ago.

Malaysia: MMEA detains another bulk carrier for illegally anchoring

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Wednesday (10 January) said a Liberia-registered bulk carrier was detained for illegally anchoring at 15 nautical miles west of Kuala Muda, Kedah on 9 January.

Kuala Kedah maritime zone director Maritime Commander Noor Azreyanti Ishak said the Malaysian Maritime Surveillance System in Langkawi spotted MV Stellar Enguri anchoring at the location at 5.45pm. 

Upon inspection, Noor Azreyanti said the captain of the ship failed to produce relevant documents permitting the ship to anchor in Malaysian waters. 

Malaysia: MMEA detains another bulk carrier for illegally anchoring

The case is being investigated under Section 49B(1)(L) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952, which carries a fine of not more than RM100,000, a jail term of not more than two years, or both, upon conviction.

Since 6 January, MMEA has detained a Majuro-registered geared bulk carrier as well as two foreign-registered ships for illegally anchoring. 

The two ships detained on 8 January in East Johor waters were registered in Basseterre and Majuro.
