Repsol on Monday (12 October) said it has successfully completed B30 marine fuel deliveries with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NCLH) at the Port of Barcelona.
These deliveries form part of the companies’ multi-energy agreement, supporting NCLH’s strategy to secure reliable access to renewable fuels for its existing fleet while preparing for future fuel needs.
“They demonstrate how supplier investment and fleet planning can bring lower-carbon fuels into everyday operations while maintaining safety, reliability and operational flexibility,” the company said in an emailed statement.
The fuel supplied was B30 co-processed marine gasoil (MGO), produced using conventional and renewable feedstocks through Repsol’s co-processing technology.
The deliveries were carried out by Bahía Candela, Repsol’s latest-generation bunker vessel, which used its onboard battery system during fuel transfer, allowing the vessel to conduct the transfer without operating its auxiliary engines and, thereby, reducing direct emissions during the process.
“The partnership combines renewable marine fuels available today with the development of future solutions such as biomethanol. Together, Repsol and NCLH are strengthening fuel supply security and building the operational experience needed to meet the fleet’s evolving energy requirements,” it added.
Manifold Times previously reported Repsol signing a landmark eight-year agreement with NCLH to supply renewable marine fuels at the Port of Barcelona.
As part of the agreement, Repsol would offer a portfolio of renewable fuels – starting with biofuels and, from 2029, renewable methanol – directly to NCLH’s vessels across its cruise brands—Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises—when calling at the Port of Barcelona.
