Petrobras supplies B24 bio bunker fuel to Transpetro tankers in São Paulo

Brazilian state-controlled oil and gas producer Petrobras on Wednesday (26 November) said it supplied three Transpetro tankers with B24 marine fuel blend at the São Sebastião Waterway Terminal in São Paulo. 

The fuel supplied to the vessels consisted of 24% biodiesel supplied by Petrobras Biocombustível (PBio) . 

Petrobras delivered 1,300 metric tonnes (mt) to Zumbi dos Palmares while the vessels Rômulo Almeida and Carlos Drummond de Andrade, with approximately 400 and 300 mt respectively.

“The bunker fuel with renewable content complies with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations, which limits the sulphur content in marine fuels. It is a drop-in solution , meaning it can be used by the existing fleet without the need for technical adaptations, positioning Brazil as a competitive alternative for the supply of sustainable marine fuels,” the company said. 

Claudio Schlosser, Petrobras’ Director of Logistics, Commercialisation and Markets, said “The operation at the São Sebastião Terminal reinforces Petrobras’ role as an agent in the energy transition and in the development of sustainable solutions for the maritime market.

“Bunker fuel with renewable content contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with the company’s environmental commitments and international best practices. Petrobras is expanding its logistical capacity for supplying this type of fuel, both in Brazil and abroad.”
