OceanConnect Marine Global Managing Director S.I. Shim on Thursday (31 January) announced the hire of a new Sales Director to help support clients affected by changing fuel regulations due to IMO 2020.
Kumar Balian, the company’s new Global Technical Sales Director, will oversee technical sales, help clients with 2020 queries, and manage the company’s claims management.
“Kumar’s deep technical knowledge will help clients as they decide how best to comply with new bunker fuel requirements, or fulfill any complex fuel needs,” Shim said.
“Customers need support as they face an uncertain future. My role at OceanConnect Marine will be to listen and provide the support they need,” Balian said. “It is a privilege to join a dynamic company which is expanding both organically and by acquisition.”
Balian has more than 24 years of international oil and gas experience, including 14 years at sea for BP and other shipping companies, on all types of oil tankers and FPSO.
He has taught at Petrospot’s Advanced Oxford Bunker Course and numerous industry gatherings, has a Masters in Maritime Law from Swansea University UK, and is an active member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (MICS).
Balian joins the company from World Fuel Services where he held several senior posts over a decade, most recently as Director of Global Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE), and Marine Operations.
He will be based in OCM’s London office and will also be involved with the company’s growing physical operations.
