MMEA detains Port Klang-registered tanker over unauthorised anchoring

Agensi Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia, also known as Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Monday (22 July) evening detained a ship for unauthorised anchoring in the waters of East Johor.

“The freight tanker registered at Port Kelang was arrested by Maritime Malaysia patrol vessel at 3.8 nautical miles southeast of Tanjung Penyusop,” said Maritime Captain Mohd Zulfadli Nayan, Director of Tanjung Sedili Maritime Zone(ZMTS).

“The arrest was made after the inspection found that the tanker failed to produce any permission from the Director of the Sea.”

The case will be investigated under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952, Section 491B (1).

If found guilty, suspects will be issued a fined not more than RM 100,000 or imprisonment not exceeding two years or both.
