Agensi Penguatkuasaan Maritim Malaysia, also known as Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), on Sunday (3 November) afternoon detained two tankers in East Johor waters over alleged unauthorised anchoring incidents, it said.

The Liberia-flagged 251,337 dwt floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel Nanhai Faxian was detained by a MMEA patrol at approximately 13.5 nautical miles East of Tanjung Penawar at 3.40pm.

An unnamed Malaysia-flagged oil tanker was also detained at 1.8 nautical miles Southeast of Tanjung Ayam for the same offense.

The crew of both vessels, which totalled 27 Indian and Indonesian nationals, were also detained.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 491B (1) (l) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952, which is activity without the consent of the Director of the Sea.

If found guilty, suspects may be liable to a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or to imprisonment not exceeding two years, or to both.
