The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Thursday (5 February) said it has detained a tanker for anchoring without permission in Selangor waters on 4 February.
Selangor MMEA director Maritime Capt Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said the tanker was detained at 12.30am about 18.9 nautical miles southwest of Kuala Sungai Besar after it was detected during a radar monitoring at Area Control Centre (ACC) Klang.
He said the vessel was operated by a Chinese captain along with 21 crew members, consisting of 11 Chinese, eight Myanmar and two Bangladeshi nationals.
“All the crew have valid identification documents but the ship’s captain failed to produce any document authorising anchoring and is suspected of committing offence under Section 491B (1) (l) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952,” Abdul Muhaimin added.
He added that the captain of the tanker and an engineer officer were taken to the Selangor Maritime headquarters to assist in further investigations.
