The Perak Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Monday (17 November) said it detained a merchant vessel for anchoring without permission in the waters near Pulau Buloh, Lumut, last Saturday.
Perak MMEA director Maritime Captain Mohamad Shukri Khotob said the ship in question was detained at 11.10 am at a position of about 17.7 nautical miles southwest of Pulau Buloh.
He said investigations found that the ship is suspected of not reporting its arrival and anchoring without permission of the Director General of the Malaysian Marine Department under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952.
The ship was operated by 20 Chinese crew members and all of them had valid identification documents.
“The case will be investigated under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952,” he added.
