Voyage intelligence and decision-support solutions provider StormGeo on Wednesday (23 September) unveiled several new capabilities at StormGeo Shipping Forum APAC 2026, with a focus on voyage optimisation and more informed operational decision-making.
Amongst developments was a new feature within StormGeo’s s-Bunker, which enables users to assess the energy value of marine fuels during the bunker procurement process.
Developed in response to customer feedback, the capability allows bunker purchasers to compare fuel options beyond the quoted price alone, taking into account energy value, and other relevant quality factors.
“The core value proposition is that comparing the energy value of different bunker quotes, rather than just the like-for-like price, allows purchasers to secure better value for every dollar spent on marine fuel,” says Julie Louise Nielsen, Global Head of Bunker Sales at StormGeo.
Traditional marine fuel procurement has largely focused on price comparisons and price benchmarking, which can overlook variations in fuel quality, energy content and emissions. As a result, a lower-priced fuel may deliver less energy value, meaning buyers may not be comparing offers on a like-for-like basis.
This is particularly relevant amid sustained high fuel prices, where bunkers remain one of the largest operating expenses for shipowners and operators.
“We want to encourage the industry to look beyond the cheapest price. Price is what you pay, value is what you get,” concludes Nielsen.
StormGeo’s new procurement capability aims to help buyers evaluate the true value of fuel by incorporating energy value considerations into procurement decisions and negotiations, supporting a stronger return on every dollar spent.
