The following article regarding bunker fuel availability in the Americas region has been provided by online marine fuel procurement platform ENGINE for post on Singapore bunkering publication Manifold Times:

  • New York bunker demand weakens
  • Vancouver holds steady supply
  • Avails tight in Paranagua, Rio Grande

North America

In Houston, despite prompt availability being tight across the three conventional fuel grades, bunker demand has been strong over the past week.

Suppliers recommend lead times of 5-7 days for HSFO and VLSFO, and LSMGO can be delivered within 4-5 days, a trader said.

At the Galveston Offshore Lightering Area (GOLA), bunker deliveries continue on a first-come, first-served basis, and are subject to weather conditions. All three conventional fuel grades are available at the anchorage location. Lead times range between 5-8 days this week, a source said.

No significant weather-related disruptions are expected across the key US Gulf Coast ports this week.

In New York, bunker demand has slightly softened this week, and prompt availability for HSFO and VLSFO is a bit tight. Suppliers recommend lead times of 6-8 days for both grades, while LSMGO can be delivered within 3-5 days.

No backlog or bunker barge readiness issues have been reported.

At the US West Coast ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, bunker demand is reported to be strong. Availability has improved over the past few weeks, with most suppliers able to deliver stems of all three conventional fuel grades within lead times of 6-7 days.

In Vancouver, Canada, bunker fuel demand is good, and availability is stable for HSFO and LSMGO. Suppliers have recommended lead times between 5-8 days this week. VLSFO requires longer lead times this week, a source said.

Latin America and the Caribbean

In Panama, bunker demand is normal, and availability is good at both Balboa and Cristobal. VLSFO and LSMGO can be delivered within lead times of 4-6 days, while HSFO requires at least five days this week, a source said.

Deliveries in Balboa are being carried out on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to weather conditions, with priority given to vessels with confirmed Panama Canal transit schedules.

In Colombia, VLSFO and LSMGO availability is good at the ports of Santa Marta, Cartagena and Barranquilla, with the earliest delivery dates available in 3-5 days, a source said.

In Brazil, bunker availability is decent at Santos, Belem and Vila do Conde, where suppliers recommend lead times of 4-7 days for VLSFO and LSMGO.

Availability is tighter in Paranaguá, while in Rio Grande, it has tightened further, with the earliest delivery date for stems now more than a week away, a trader said.

In Rio de Janeiro, VLSFO can be delivered within lead times of 5-8 days while LSMGO is available under prior consultation.

Petrobras Marine has expanded its bunker supply operations to the Port of Suape by launching barge deliveries of VLSFO and LSMGO this week. The supplier previously delivered both grades only via pipeline at the port.

In Chile, VLSFO and LSMGO availability is steady, with suppliers recommending lead times of 5-7 days. HSFO is no longer available in the country.

In Argentina’s Zona Comun, suppliers recommend lead times of 6-7 days. High wind gusts are forecast between 6-9 August, which could delay bunker operations when wind speeds exceed 20 knots due to the suspension of operations.

ENGINE on Biofuel Bunker Snapshot: B30-VLSFO prices drop across global hubs

Once a week, bunker intelligence platform ENGINE will publish a snapshot of biofuel bunker prices in Europe, Fujairah and Singapore. The following is the latest snapshot:

  • B100 price surges in Rotterdam this week
  • Gibraltar’s B30-VLSFO price drops sharply
  • Singapore’s bio-blended bunker volumes rose sharply

Europe

Rotterdam’s B30-VLSFO (POMEME) price has dropped $17/mt in the past week, most probably pressured by a $24/mt drop in the Dutch port’s conventional VLSFO price during the same period.

Rotterdam’s B30-LSMGO (POMEME) price has gained by $17/mt to $1,476/mt, which has been similar to a $19/mt gain in the port’s conventional LSMGO price.

B100 has been priced at $1,418/mt in Rotterdam today, a sharp $209/mt increase compared to last week.

Prima Markets’ POMEME barge price, which is an indicator of feedstock sourcing costs, has gone up by $35/mt to $2,059/mt.

Dutch suppliers can generate ZRE A tickets for selling low carbon fuels, which can be traded with other suppliers. The price of these tickets has dropped from €200/mtCO2e ($230/mtCO2e) last Friday to €190/mtCO2e ($218/mtCO2e) on Thursday this week.

Gibraltar’s B30-VLSFO (UCOME) price has slumped $166/mt lower in the past week. The port’s conventional VLSFO price has remained largely unchanged during this period.

This has cut the port’s B30-VLSFO price premium over conventional VLSFO by $172/mt in a single week to $250/mt.

Lisbon’s B30-VLSFO price has dropped $107/mt during the week. It has flipped to a modest $9/mt premium over Gibraltar’s B30-VLSFO price, coming from a $50/mt discount last Friday.

Lisbon’s B30-LSMGO price has slumped $115/mt to $1,600/mt, while the B100 price in the Portuguese port has plunged $215/mt lower to $1,665/mt.

Asia

Singapore’s B30-VLSFO (UCOME) price has dropped $56/mt since last Friday, while the port’s conventional VLSFO price has gained only $5/mt over the same period.

This has narrowed the port’s B30-VLSFO price premium by $61/mt in a single week.

Data this week showed Singapore’s bio-blended bunker sales rose by 48% in August to 57,000 mt, which was the highest monthly volume since April.

B30-VLSFO is priced at $1,015/mt in Hong Kong, which is a $35/mt price discount to Singapore.

Hong Kong’s B30-VLSFO price is at a $109/mt premium over its conventional VLSFO price.

RESIZED ENGINE Americas

The following article regarding bunker fuel availability in the Americas region has been provided by online marine fuel procurement platform ENGINE for post on Singapore bunkering publication Manifold Times:

  • New York HSFO availability to tighten
  • Panama Canal transits face delays
  • Supply tight in Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande

North America

Bunker demand has been good in the US Gulf Coast port of Houston over the past week and prompt fuel availability is a bit tight across most suppliers, a trader tells ENGINE.

Lead times for HSFO and LSMGO are currently estimated to be between 5-7 days, while VLSFO requires between 5-6 days.

At the Galveston Offshore Lightering Area (GOLA), high winds gusts up to 24 knots are forecast in intervals between 17-19 September and could disrupt bunker operations, a source said.

Deliveries are done on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to weather conditions. Lead times for HSFO and VLSFO are between 3-7 days at the anchorage. LSMGO has been delivered by suppliers within 2-3 days over the past week.

On the East Coast, bunker demand at the port of New York has recorded neither highs nor lows this week.

Lead times for all three conventional fuel grades are between 5-8 days. HSFO availability at New York is expected to tighten over the week, a trader tells ENGINE.

Weather conditions have been calm in New York, with winds mostly below 10 knots and gusts peaking at around 18 knots on Sunday. No backlog or bunker barge readiness issues have been reported.

Bunker demand has picked up on the US West Coast compared with previous weeks, a trader said.

Availability is normal at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, where all three conventional grades require lead times of 4-7 days.

In Canada’s Vancouver the market has seen healthy demand and availability is normal. HSFO and LSMGO require lead times between 4-6 days. VLSFO requires at least five days of lead time this week, a source said.

Latin America and the Caribbean

Transits through the Panama Canal are currently subject to waiting times of 3-4 days, a source said. Lower water levels at the canal have reduced the number of transit slots available in recent weeks.

Availability is normal at Balboa and Cristobal, where HSFO, VLSFO and LSMGO can all be delivered within 3-4 days by most suppliers.

Deliveries at Balboa are done on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to vessels holding confirmed transit schedules, a source said.

In Colombia, prompt fuel availability is good at Cartagena, Santa Marta and Barranquilla. VLSFO and LSMGO can all be delivered within 3-4 days, a trader said.

HSFO is also available at these Colombian ports, but supply is not regular, the trader added.

HSFO supply is tight in Callao and is offered with prior consultation. VLSFO and LSMGO are more readily available and 3-7 days of lead time is recommended, a trader said.

In Brazil, availability of VLSFO and LSMGO is decent at Santos, with both grades deliverable in 6-7 days, and the port remains congested. The earliest delivery date for both the grades is 23 September, a trader said.

Supply of both grades is very tight in Rio de Janeiro, Paranagua and Rio Grande, where they are offered with prior consultation and require 7-10 days of lead time.

Belem and Vila do Conde have good availability of VLSFO and LSMGO, with lead times of 3-7 days.

At Zona Comun, VLSFO and LSMGO availability has improved, with suppliers now able to deliver within 3-6 days, down from 5-7 days previously, a source said.

Wind gusts of up to 19 knots are forecast at the Argentinian anchorage on Thursday, before conditions are set to improve after that. Deliveries are done on a first-come, first-served basis.
