China: Sinopec supplies LSMGO bunker fuel to first domestically built large cruise ship

Sinopec Fuel Oil Sales Co Ltd on Wednesday (17 January) said it supplied a total of 1,047 metric tonnes of low sulphur marine gas oil (LSMGO) to China’s first domestically built large cruise ship “Adora Magic City” for its sea trial and maiden voyage.

The ship, also known as “Floating City on the Sea”, set off for its maiden voyage on 1 January in Shanghai.

The cruise ship “Adora Magic City” has a total length of 323.6 metres, a width of 37.2 metres, a total tonnage of 135,500 tonnes, 20 decks, 2,125 guest rooms, and can carry 5,246 passengers. It is known as one of the largest maritime projects in the world, resembling a “floating city”. 

The firm said the ship has successfully filled the gap in domestic large-scale cruise ships and achieved a milestone in the field of domestic large-scale cruise ships, making China the fifth country in the world capable of building large-scale cruise ships.

Sinopec Fuel Oil Sales said it made sufficient preparations to successfully complete the fuel supply for the maiden voyage by establishing a dedicated group for ease of communication and coordination.

According to media reports, the ship completed its seven-day maiden voyage with 3,000 passengers onboard and returned to Shanghai on 7 January. The route reportedly covered Shanghai-Jeju-Nagasaki-Fukuoka-Shanghai.
