China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd. on Monday (5 December) announced the signing of a letter of intent for cooperation in the construction of 2+4 9,000 Car Estimated Units (CEU) methanol dual-fuel pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs).
The firm said it signed the letter with China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd., a PCTC shipbuilder, on 4 December in order to improve the transportation capacity of foreign trade vehicles as soon as possible.
The company also said the latest order is also to actively promote the development of low-carbon and environmentally friendly green ships.
The main content of the letter includes the total contract cost of this series of vessels shall not exceed USD 597 million and the first two ships shall be delivered no later than 2025 while the four optional vessels shall be delivered no later than 2026.
These PCTCs are expected to be the largest and most advanced PCTCs in the world once built.
