Global energy and commodity price reporting agency Argus Media on Thursday (17 October) provided a marine fuels industry update:
Fujairah-based bunkering firm Mediterranean Eastern Enterprise (MEE) has started supplying International Maritime Organisation (IMO) compliant marine fuels.
MEE sold a first cargo of 0.5pc sulphur bunker fuel today.
The volume and date of delivery was unconfirmed. MME's product has a viscosity of around 120cst and sulphur content of just below 0.5pc.
A number of Fujairah suppliers have been offering 0.5pc sulphur bunker fuels recently. Independent bunker seller Oil Marketing Trading International (OMTI) began supplying IMO-compliant marine fuels earlier this month, and Dubai-based trading firm GP Global started deliveries of 0.5pc bunker fuels at the port in September.
Another major bunker seller, International Supply, will start offering IMO-compliant bunker fuels next week, market participants said.
Demand for IMO-compliant fuel is on the rise ahead of the 1 January imposition of rules that prohibit use of high-sulphur fuel unless a vessel has exhaust scrubber equipment fitted.
