The Perak Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) recently said it detained a Panama-registered bulk carrier for anchoring without permission.
The vessel was located about 23.4 nautical miles southwest Tanjung Lumba-Lumba, Perak around 4pm last Tuesday.
Perak MMEA director Maritime Captain Mohamad Shukri Khotob said the ship was detected through the Maritime Surveillance System (SWASLA) before the Operation Centre in Perak was informed of the ship.
“Investigation found that the vessel is suspected of committing two offences under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 for anchoring without permission and failing to inform of the vessel’s arrival in Malaysian waters,” he said.
Three crew members consisting of one 34-year-old Russian and two Myanmar nationals, aged 33 and 37 respectively, were brought to the Perak State Maritime Headquarters for further investigation.
