SinoBunker completes Guangzhou Port’s first methanol bunkering op for RoRo vessel

China Shipping & Sinopec Suppliers Co Ltd (SinoBunker) on Friday (16 October) completed Guangzhou Port’s first methanol bunkering operation for a roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel on 16 October.

The company supplied 2,300 metric tonnes (mt) of methanol, including 1,400 mt of bonded green methanol, to RoRo vessel Guang Rong.

The vessel is a new-generation methanol dual-fuel car carrier with capacity for approximately 7,800 vehicles. It was carrying Chinese-made new energy vehicles (NEVs) to Europe for the first time.

The operation marked the first large-scale clean-fuel supply to a large car carrier at Nansha’s automobile port, expanding Guangzhou Port’s methanol bunkering activities to the RoRo vessel segment.

The latest operation followed methanol bunkering for a bulk carrier at the Lantau anchorage on 6 September and a container ship at berth in Nansha on 28 September.

SinoBunker said it had completed methanol bunkering operations for bulk carriers, container ships and RoRo vessels within approximately 40 days, making it the first marine fuel supplier in China to have experience bunkering methanol to these three main vessel types.

The company said it would continue developing its green marine fuel supply network in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including expanding the supply of methanol and biofuels, to support the development of lower-carbon shipping and green shipping corridors in the region.
