The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) recently successfully demonstrated India’s first‑ever methanol bunkering operation at Kandla port—a major milestone for the Indian port sector and maritime decarbonisation.
According to Paresh Choxi, Assistant Vice President of Aegis Vopak Terminal, the event is a landmark step toward cleaner fuels and green shipping corridors for India.
Gregory Dolan, who served as CEO at the Methanol Institute for 14 years and formed consulting firm Pivot Methanol, said the successful shore-to-ship methanol bunkering trial was conducted with Stolt Tankers, Vopak and Indian Oil Corp Limited.
He said the port is positioning itself as a green methanol bunkering hub and has been handling grey methanol as a cargo with average monthly volumes of 120,000 tons, with a well-established system of methanol handling and storage including storage tanks, pipelines and jetties.
“The Port Authority has adopted a Bunker Manual – Green Methanol, along with Standard Operating Procedure – Methanol Bunkering,” Dolan added.
