Shanghai Port completes methanol bunkering operation of RoRo ship

SIPG Energy on Saturday (13 December) said it completed another ship-to-ship methanol bunkering operation of a roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ship at Shanghai Port.

Bunkering vessel Hai Gang Zhi Yuan, owned by SIPG Energy, successfully refuelled the 9,300 CEU methanol dual-fuel Ro-Ro ship CM Shen Zhen with 2,000 metric tonnes (mt) of methanol at Haitong Terminal, Waigaoqiao Port Area in Shanghai on 10 December.

This comes following the successful bunkering operation of its sister vessel CM Hong Kong in September.

“The methanol bunkering SIMOPS operation for PCTC at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Area demonstrates the continuous enhancement of the comprehensive green energy supply capability of Shanghai Port. It also contributes to the establishment of a low‑carbon shipping service system,” SIPG Energy said.

“As the global shipping industry accelerates its green transition, SIPG Energy continues to strengthen its green energy bunkering capabilities.”

In April 2024, Shanghai Port completed the first domestic ship-to-ship green methanol bunkering with simultaneous cargo operations.

On 3 November, 3,000 mt of green methanol from the Waigaoqiao Oriental Tank Terminal in Shanghai Port were successfully supplied to methanol bunkering vessel Hai Gang Zhi Yuan, marking the formal establishment of a bonded green methanol bunkering system in the Waigaoqiao Port Area of Shanghai.
