Singapore-based Alterna Energy announces key hires worldwide including China

Bunker firm Alterna Energy announced new appointments and offices in Shanghai, Dubai, London, and Miami in recent weeks as part of its global expansion.

Singapore-headquartered bunker firm Alterna Energy, in recent weeks, announced several new appointments and offices in Shanghai, Dubai, London, and Miami. 

The company announced the appointment of Neo Fan, Andre Zhou, and Linda Wang in Shanghai as part of its expansion plan. 

Fan brings 15 years of experience in the bunker industry, having held key positions at OW and Cockett. With extensive knowledge of global bunkering and strong relationships across both customers and suppliers, he remains dedicated to servicing our valued business partners. 

Zhou has 14 years of expertise in the bunker industry, previously with OW and most recently with Cockett. He maintains strong connections with major Chinese shipping companies and physical suppliers. Coupled with his direct experience in ship operations, Andre has an in-depth understanding from both sides of the aisle. 

Wang has 16 years of experience from the bunker industry. She specialises in invoicing and statistical data analysis, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and reliability in financial reporting.

In Dubai, Alterna Energy opened a new office, registered as Alterna Energy FZCO, which is headed by Martin Haxholdt. Before joining the company, Haxhold was with Cockett Group for about eight years between 2014 and 2023. He started as the Regional Manager of Greater China before he was appointed as the Commercial Head of Asia. Between 2009 to 2014, Haxhold was with OW Bunker & Trading. 

Alterna Energy also announced the opening of its London office led by Tom Coffey, Head of Bunkers – Europe, who will be joined by Senior Trader Nick Hughes.

Coffey brings over 17 years of experience in the industry, having spent 13 years at Cockett Marine Oil as Head of North Europe and four years at LQM Petroleum Services. Hughes joins the company with nine years of expertise from Cockett Marine Oil, with a total of 11 years industry experience as a trader.

“Together, Tom and Nick will manage day-to-day operations and are eager to support both our existing partners and new clients,” the company said.

In the Americas, Tom Ireland has been introduced as the Head of Bunkers and will lead the company’s Miami office. 

Ireland brings 13 years of global bunker experience having worked previously for Cockett Marine Oil in their London and Dubai offices, before settling in the United States seven years ago.

“Tom is keen to build upon the work already done in the region by achieving a strong presence for Alterna in the Americas with both suppliers and customers,” Alterna Energy added.

Oilmar appoints Shawn Ho to senior bunker trading role in Singapore

UAE-based marine fuel and petroleum products trader Oilmar on Monday (13 July) announced the appointment of Shawn Ho as Senior Manager, Business Development and Bunker Trading in its Trading Department in Singapore.

Ho has more than 15 years of experience in the petroleum industry, including 11 years at Toyota Tsusho Petroleum and four years at Adani Global. His experience covers bunker trading, operations, market analysis and risk management.

“His extensive expertise in commercial trading, strategic negotiations, and developing strong partnerships with suppliers and customers makes him a valuable addition to our team,” the company said in a social media post. 

“As Oilmar continues to expand its global presence and strengthen its position in the marine fuels market, Shawn’s experience, industry insight, and commercial leadership will play an important role in driving our continued growth and delivering value to our customers.”

Seascale Energy hires Soo Yong Koo as Business Development Director in Singapore

Seascale Energy, a bunker procurement joint venture of Cargill’s Pure Marine Fuels and Hafnia’s Bunker Alliance, on Friday (10 July) announced the appointment of Soo Yong Koo as the Business Development Director of the company. 

Based at Seascale Energy’s Singapore hub, Koo has more than 25 years of experience in the maritime and energy trading sectors, with expertise in marine fuels, commercial management, business development and customer relations.

She has held senior commercial roles at Trafigura, Mabanaft and BP, with experience spanning physical bunker operations and global sales.

Koo is an active contributor to the marine fuels industry, having served as a Board Member of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA), Asia, a member of the Working Group for Marine Fuels under the Singapore Chemical Industry Council (SCIC), and as a member of the Singapore Shipping Association’s (SSA) Marine Fuels Committee.

In her new role, Koo will focus on supporting customer growth, strengthening commercial partnerships, and helping customers navigate an increasingly complex marine fuels landscape. 

The company added that her experience across both conventional and emerging marine fuels aligns closely with Seascale Energy’s ambition to deliver transparent, scalable, and future-ready fuel procurement solutions.

Burando Energies taps Paola Prieto as Senior Bunker Trader for Latin America expansion

European marine fuel supplier Burando Energies on Tuesday (7 July) announced Paola Prieto joining its global trading team as a Senior Bunker Trader.

In her new role, Prieto will lead Burando Energies’ expansion and commercial efforts in the Latin American market. 

She was a bunker trader with Dan-Bunkering from April 2020 to April 2025. 

William Cline, Managing Director of Burando Energies, said: “I am delighted to be working with Paola.
