The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Saturday (2 February) reportedly detained two Malaysia flagged vessels over an alleged illegal ship to ship (STS) transfer of diesel oil at a location 3 nautical miles off Kemaman at Terengganu, Malaysia.

Officials spotted the oil tanker Aliya Sari transferring oil to accommodation and work barge Saujana Tiga without permission nor legal documents, said local media who attended the MMEA press conference.

About 50,000 litres of diesel estimated at RM130,000 (US $31,800) was seized by the authorities in the process.

Kemaman Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Commander Rashidilhadi Abd. Rashid told reporters both vessels were detained and taken to the Kemaman Maritime Zone Jetty, Teluk Kalong for further investigations under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952.

If found guilty parties would be liable to a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment not exceeding two years, or both at once.
