The Taiziwan cruise terminal at the Port of Shenzhen, southern China has recently been upgraded with a self-propelled, battery-powered shore power solution, according to global engineering group Cavotec.
It notes the Cavortec AMPMobile solution will also be installed at two other Chinese cruise terminals located at Wusong in Shanghai and Qingdao in Shangdong province.
“The unit’s batteries are charged while it connects vessels to the grid. This means that no additional vehicles are required to move it around the quay, further reducing environmental impact,” it explains.
Cavotec, meanwhile, notes ports, shipping lines, and authorities in China striving to reduce emissions from shipping.
“The development of cruise berths at Chinese ports continues at a rapid pace,” it says.
“With a view to mitigating environmental impact, China has introduced regulations to support the adoption of shore power to reduce emissions.”
