Corsican regional shipping company Corsica Linea intends to equip each of its three ferry vessels Pascal Paoli, Paglia Orba, and Jean Nicoli with a cold ironing system to use electricity for power while at berth, instead of burning fuel, says the Port of Marseilles.

“As a responsible economic actor, Corsica Linea has opted for an electricity connection for its berthed ships because of the significant benefits it brings in terms of environmental protection, public health and improved working conditions,” it notes.

“The Port of Marseille Fos is supporting this ecological transition by realising the shore power supply connections (CENAQ) for the company's ships.

“Shore power will be operational in 2019.”
