The Vietnam Coast Guard on Monday (6 April) said its Reconnaissance Task Force No.1 has detained two vessels illegally carrying 100,000 litres of diesel oil and 6,500 litres of engine lubricant respectively.
In an official press release, the Coast guard said the team was on patrol at about 3.00 pm on Sunday (5 April) around the Quang-Ninh-Haiphong bay area when they spotted oil tanker HP 3458 and vessel HP 3533 behaving suspiciously.
Initial inspections revealed that oil tanker HP 3458 had three crew members onboard and was carrying 100,000 litres of diesel oil while HP 3533 had four crew members and was carrying a 6,500 litres of engine lubricant.
When questioned, Captains of both vessels were unable to produce any documents validating the origins of their cargo.
Both vessels have been detained and handed over to Coast Guard Region 1 to be dealt with in accordance with the law.
