Vietnam: Fishing vessel arrested over 70,000 litres of unknown origin diesel oil

Initial investigation found the ship, which had three members on board, to be transporting about 70,000 litres of diesel oil with no documents proving its legal origin.

The Vietnam Coast Guard on Thursday (12 October) said it arrested a fishing vessel with the number KG - 90268-TS at the Southwest Sea on 11 October.

The Coast Guard discovered the ship at 11.20pm displaying several suspicious signs and ordered the fishing vessel to stop for administrative inspections.

An initial investigation found the ship, which had three members on board, to be transporting about 70,000 litres of diesel oil with no documents proving its legal origin.

As such, the authorities made a record of administrative violations and escorted the vessel to the Port of Squadron 401. The case was handed over to Coast Guard Region 4 Command for further investigations and handling in accordance with the law.

An Liberia-flagged oil tanker, Fair Star, was arrested in Singapore waters on Saturday (5 October). 

The vessel was added to the list of vessels under Sheriff’s arrest in Singapore’s court system. 

According to the list, the vessel was arrested at 9.05pm and the arresting solicitor listed was law firm Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP. The ship is currently held at Eastern Petroleum Anchorage A. 

No details regarding the reason behind the arrest were provided in the list.

An Indonesian-flagged oil products tanker, SC Explorer LIII, was arrested in Singapore waters on Thursday (12 September). 

The vessel, previously named British Explorer, was added to the list of vessels under Sheriff’s arrest in Singapore’s court system. 

According to the list, the vessel was arrested at 1.10am and the arresting solicitor listed was law firm Incisive Law LLC. The ship is currently held at Western Petroleum Anchorage B. 

No details regarding the reason behind the arrest were provided in the list.

Vietnam-flagged oil and chemical tanker GT Unity was arrested for the third time in Singapore waters on Thursday (5 September).

The 7,631 DWT vessel was added to the list of vessels under Sheriff’s arrest in Singapore’s court system. 

According to the list, the vessel was arrested at 10.45am and the arresting solicitor listed was law firm Resource Law LLC. The ship is currently held at Raffles Reserved Anchorage. 

No further details regarding the reason behind the arrest were provided in the list. 

Manifold Times previously reported GT Unity was arrested in the republic on 6 December, 11 October and 10 March last year.
