The Vietnam Coast Guard on Tuesday (10 September) afternoon detained a 461 dwt tanker named Phu Yen 2007 over the carriage of unknown diesel oil cargo.

The tanker was spotted about 6 nautical miles from the tip of Ky Van to the Southeast; it was illegally anchored within two nautical miles from the outermost edge of an offshore petroleum project area.

An inspection found seven crew members on the ship, including two crew members who did not have a professional certificate.

The Captain's initial testimony stated the ship carrying about 200,000 litres of diesel oil; there were no papers proving the legality of the cargo on board.

Following, the Vietnam Coast Guard escorted Phu Yen 2007 to a nearby port for further inspections.
