Shell MGO bunker heist: Ex-Shell employees sentenced to more than 23 years in prison each

Muzaffar Ali Khan Muhamad Akram, 42, was given a 26½ years’ jail sentence, while Koh Choon Wei, 40, was sentenced to 23½ years’ jail.

Two former Shell employees, who were involved in the conspiracy to misappropriate gas oil from Shell Pulau Bukom refinery, were slapped with a jail term of more than 23 years each, according to The Straits Times

Muzaffar Ali Khan Muhamad Akram, 42, was given a 26½ years of jail, while Koh Choon Wei, 40, was sentenced to 23½ years of jail.

Muzaffar pleaded guilty to 31 charges for abetting the commission of criminal breach of trust, using his criminal benefits and corruption-related offences. 

Koh Choon Wei pleaded guilty to 21 charges for abetting the commission of criminal breach of trust and using his criminal benefits.

Muzaffar, who played a role in misappropriating gas oil worth nearly $120 million, made at least $1.3 million in profits while Koh benefitted at least $1 million from his role in misappropriating gas oil worth over $101 million.

Vessel was arrested at 1.10am on 12 September and is currently held at Western Petroleum Anchorage B; arresting solicitor was law firm Incisive Law LLC.

Indonesian-flagged tanker “SC Explorer LIII”

An Indonesian-flagged oil products tanker, SC Explorer LIII, was arrested in Singapore waters on Thursday (12 September). 

The vessel, previously named British Explorer, was added to the list of vessels under Sheriff’s arrest in Singapore’s court system. 

According to the list, the vessel was arrested at 1.10am and the arresting solicitor listed was law firm Incisive Law LLC. The ship is currently held at Western Petroleum Anchorage B. 

No details regarding the reason behind the arrest were provided in the list.

A meeting for creditors of shipping and chartering services provider Vanda Marine Services Pte Ltd, which is in voluntary liquidation, has been scheduled to take place on 20 September, according to a Government Gazette notice on Tuesday (10 September). 

The meeting will be held at 60 Paya Lebar Road, #05-40 Paya Lebar Square Singapore 409051 at 3pm. 

The agenda of the meeting will be as follows:

  • To receive a statement of the assets and liabilities of the Company; and
  • To consider appointing a person to be the liquidator in place of the liquidator appointed by the Company.

Notes:

  1. A creditor who wishes to obtain information concerning the affairs of the Company, may request by email to the liquidator’s office at: [email protected].
  2. The creditors may, at the abovementioned meeting, appoint a person to be the liquidator for the purpose of winding up the affairs and distributing the assets of the company in place of the liquidator appointed by the Company.
  3. The proxy must be lodged with the liquidator not later than 12.00pm on 19 September 2024 if you wish to attend the meeting.

Vietnam-flagged oil and chemical tanker GT Unity was arrested for the third time in Singapore waters on Thursday (5 September).

The 7,631 DWT vessel was added to the list of vessels under Sheriff’s arrest in Singapore’s court system. 

According to the list, the vessel was arrested at 10.45am and the arresting solicitor listed was law firm Resource Law LLC. The ship is currently held at Raffles Reserved Anchorage. 

No further details regarding the reason behind the arrest were provided in the list. 

Manifold Times previously reported GT Unity was arrested in the republic on 6 December, 11 October and 10 March last year.
