PSA Marine’s LNG dual fuelled tug starts construction in China

30 Nov 2018

A liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual fuelled tugboat (Hull no. PX1098) owned by Singapore-based harbour and terminal towage operator PSA Marine, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PSA International, has started construction at the PaxOcean shipyard in Zhuhai, China in November.

Peter Chew, Managing Director and Mr. Lim Bock Kee, Senior General Manager (Special Projects) of PSA Marine attended the ceremony, noted an update from Vancouver-based independent naval architecture and marine engineering firm Robert Allan Ltd.

Robert Allan in January was selected to design a dual fuel ship-handling tug for PSA Marine to operate in Singapore; it is scheduled for delivery in 2019.

“The cooperation between Robert Allan Ltd. and PSA Marine began in 2002, with the design of Z-Tech tug series,” it notes.

“Since that time the two companies have developed a close, cooperative working relationship, providing high quality custom-tailored tugs for the international market.

“At the time of writing, there are several Robert Allan Ltd. designed tugs under construction for PSA Marine at various shipyards around the world.”

The company adds it has also designed a LNG dual fuelled tugboat for Østensjø Rederi, Norway and Ningbo Port, China.
