Prosecutors have asked an Indonesian court to sentence Muhammad Kerry Adrianto Riza, the son of prominent oil businessman Riza Chalid, to 18 years in prison over his alleged role in a major corruption case involving state energy firm Pertamina, according to recent media reports.

In a hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court, the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) on 13 February 2026 demanded the lengthy prison term, a Rp 1 billion (about USD 59,000) fine, and Rp 13.4 trillion in restitution for Kerry’s purported involvement in unlawful procurement deals tied to crude oil management between 2018 and 2023.

Prosecutors allege Kerry, who was the beneficial owner of fuel terminal firm PT Orbit Terminal Merak, enriched himself and other parties through his involvement in several Pertamina procurement projects between 2018 and 2023 that violated laws and operational standards.

He is also accused of collusion in vessel leasing schemes despite the charter company lacking proper oil and gas transport licences.

Kerry’s father, Riza Chalid — who was known as a powerful figure in oil imports — has also been named a suspect in the case. He remains at large and was placed on Interpol’s wanted list in August last year.
