Two containerships collided in Hong Kong on Friday (28 March), causing minor damages and container losses at Hong Kong’s Kwai Tsing Container Terminal.

The ONE Columba vessel, operated by Singapore-based Ocean Network Express (ONE), struck Clifford Maersk, a 7,060 TEU vessel operated by Maersk Line, which was berthed at the terminal.

Maersk confirmed the incident to Manifold Times when contacted.

“The Clifford Maersk was hit by the inbound ONE Columba while she was berthed in the Hong Kong port,” Maersk said in a statement.

“The allision caused minor damages to the Clifford Maersk, and the crew are safe. We have conducted an inspection of the damages, and the vessel has left the Hong Kong port on 2 March 2025.”

The incident reportedly led to three containers falling overboard, which Maersk confirmed that they were later retrieved.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the Marine Department in Hong Kong stated the collision did not result in any injuries or oil spills and it was looking into the matter.
