OceanConnect Marine on Thursday (10 October) said it has hired a 2020 expert to promote the company’s online bunker procurement system, AuctionConnect, and other related business development projects.
Per Funch-Nielsen comes to OCM from 20|20 Marine Energy, where he served a wide range of owners, operators, suppliers and governments preparing for new bunker sulphur limits that take effect 1 January.
His title with OCM will be Sales Director, and in addition to promoting the online platform, he will also facilitate client services.
Before working as a consultant, Funch-Nielsen developed bunker supply infrastructure in ports worldwide and on the high seas for more than 15 years. He has more than 25 years of management experience in the shipping, oil, and bunker industry, and previously worked as a senior manager with Unioil-Supply A/S and OW Bunker.
OCM announced upgrades to its online bunker purchase platform in July where bunker requirements are filled via reverse auctions, in which suppliers compete to offer the lowest price.
To accommodate any IMO 2020 scenario, buyers are able run multiple auctions at once, or they can run a single auction for multiple ships and or multiple product grades including split deliveries.
“Per’s deep expertise in bunker procurement as a buyer, supplier, and consultant, together with his 2020 expertise, will enhance the value of our online offering for shipowners as they prepare to comply with the new regulations,” said OCM Global Managing Director S.I. Shim.
“The future of bunkering, after the 2020 rules take effect, belongs to companies that combine traditional expertise with new technology that supports buyers and sellers,” notes Funch-Nielsen.
