Marine fuels supplier Monjasa on Wednesday (2 April) announced it was redeploying tanker Monjasa Thunder from Panama to Offshore US Gulf, following a positive market entrance last year.
“Monjasa Thunder becomes our first owned tanker in the US and sets us apart as the only marine fuels supplier in the area to operate its own tonnage and thereby allowing extended maritime quality and efficiency,” said Anastasios Manalis, Trading Director Americas.
Taking further ownership across the supply chain also means that Monjasa’s previous chartering of the well-run chemical tanker, Stenheim (16,626 dwt) from Rederiet Stenersen AS, will conclude by next month.
The 19,991 dwt Monjasa Thunder, which was built 2009, is six years younger than Stenheim and adds additional carrying capacity. It will soon undergo drydocking in Kingston, Jamaica, to obtain the necessary certifications and approvals to operate in the US too.
During late 2024, Monjasa initiated offshore US Gulf operations serving primarily the tanker segment as a natural extension of its existing supply activities in the Houston Greater Area with three barges.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the ship and crew into new waters and expect Monjasa Thunder in full operation by the end of April 2025,” the company said.
In June 2024, Manifold Times reported Monjasa relocating Monjasa Thunder from West Africa to Panama Canal.
