The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Tuesday (21 March) said it detained two local fishing vessels off south Pulau Tinggi at 11am on 20 March as the vessel owners violated terms of their licences by modifying oil tanks of the vessels.
The owners were also found to have committed the offence of adding additional space on the vessels, MMEA Mersing Zone Comm Maritime Suhaizan Saadin said.
“They were detailed by our patrol vessel team during Op Jaksa/ Op Mardof Barat,” he said.
Suhaizan added all 11 crew members of both ships were Indonesians including the captains and were aged between 25 to 44.
Both vessels were brought to Teluk Gading jetty and were handed over to the MMEA investigation officers for further action.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 8 (b) of the Fisheries Act 1985, which is a violation of the valid conditions of the licence.
