JV firm KEYS Bunkering West Japan orders LNG bunker tanker from Mitsubishi Shipbuilding

Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc., NYK Line, ITOCHU ENEX CO., LTD., and SAIBU GAS CO., LTD. on Tuesday (29 March) said they have established a joint venture company, KEYS Bunkering West Japan Co., Ltd. (KEYS), in February this year.

The JV firm has now entered into a shipbuilding contract with Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for the construction of an LNG bunkering vessel for delivery by March 2024.

The newbuilding is expected to become the first LNG bunkering vessel operating in West Japan (i.e. Kyushu and Setouchi regions).

The parties meanwhile also informed they have submitted a grant application to the Ports and Harbours Bureau and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) in January to establish LNG fuel supply facilities.

The grant application for establishing the LNG fuel supply business has been approved on 4 March and with the support of the MLIT, KEYS will now own and manage LNG bunkering vessels and implement its LNG fuel supply business.
