Singapore-based bunker tanker owner and operator Hong Lam Marine has entered into a newbuilding contract with Dayang Offshore Equipment Co., Ltd for two 8,500 dwt bunker tankers.
The contract, signed during a Singapore delegate visit to Suzhou and Nanjing in Jiangsu province between 24-27 September, comes with an option for two further bunker tankers.
The visit, which saw over 30 business representatives across Singapore’s various industries, was led by Indranee Rajah, Minister in Prime Minister’s office and Second Minister for Finance and Education, and co-chair of the Singapore-Jiangsu Cooperation Council (SJCC) as part of a Government-to-Government project between Singapore and China.
“As a reflection of our long-standing cooperation, Singapore and Jiangsu’s trade and investment ties have remained strong,” said Minister Indranee during the opening speech.
“In 2018, Singapore’s trade with Jiangsu grew by 12.5% to US$12.8 billion from the previous year. Jiangsu has also consistently been the top investment destination for Singapore companies in China.
“To date, there are over 4,400 Singapore projects in Jiangsu with a cumulative investment of US$29.4 billion.”
Hong Lam Marine in April received the Singapore Bunker Award at a Singapore International Maritime Awards (IMA) organised dinner.
Maersk Oil Trading, the bunkering arm of A.P. Moller – Maersk, in January installed the world’s largest bunkering mass flowmeter (MFM) unit onboard the high sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) barge MT Eager owned by Hong Lam Marine.
