[Updated 27 Aug] Hong Kong: Bunker spill at HIT container terminal in Kwai Chung

Editor’s note [27 August]: An industry source informed TS Kobe has left Hong Kong port on 26 August 0001hrs and operations are back to normal. 

A bunker spill occurred at the Kwai Chung container loading/unloading berth of Hongkong International Terminals Limited (HIT) on Wednesday morning (21 August), learned bunkering publication Manifold Times.

The incident took place during a bunkering operation between Yee Lee 2, a barge operated by bunker supplier Bunker Express Company Ltd, and containership TS Kobe (IMO 9868182). A representative of Bunker Express Company declined to comment when contacted, citing ongoing investigations.

Hong Kong bunker suppliers and traders have informed Manifold Times certain berths of HIT’s Kwai Chung facility have been temporary closed to facilitate in oil spill clean-up and investigations, while operations at the rest of Hong Kong port remain normal.
