Gazpromneft Marine Bunker, the operator of Gazprom Neft's bunker business, says its bunker sales in the first half (1H) of 2019 increased by 23% compared to the same period last year – amounting to 1.53 million metric tonnes (mt).

Sales in the ports of the North-West region of Russia increased by 26% to 857,500 mt; in the Black Sea region by 14% to 503,200 mt.

Also, bunkering of river vessels on inland waterways increased by 90% – up to 106,300 mt.

Sales of ultra-low sulphur marine fuel increased by 11% in the first half of 2019 to 121,400 mt.

“The bulk of the sales from high-tech petroleum products with a sulphur content of 0.1%, which meet the requirements of the MARPOL international convention and intended for use in SECA shipping zones, came from the ports of the North-West region, primarily St. Petersburg,” it notes.

Moving forward, the firm says it will continue to actively develop its portfolio by increasing sales of environmentally friendly marine and hybrid 0.5% sulphur limit fuels produced by its Moscow and Omsk Oil Refineries.

“In addition, in the medium term, the company considers bunkering with liquefied natural gas as an alternative to traditional marine fuel,” it states.

“The company intends to develop a new LNG bunkering market for the domestic shipping industry.

“To this end, Gazprom Neft initiated the introduction of the international standard for LNG bunkering into the practice of Russian shipping, and also began to develop a project unique for the industry to build the first LNG bunker in Russia.”
