04 Jul 2019

Madrid-based Gasnam, an association that encourages the use of natural and renewable gas for both land and sea applications at the Iberian Peninsula, has recorded an increase in liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operations in Spain.

During the first half (1H) of 2019, there were 70 LNG bunkering operations from tanker trucks and 15 operations from supply vessels, it said.

A total of 33,991 cubic metres (m3) was supplied in 1H 2019, 636% more when compared to the similar period in the previous year.

To date, there are currently 165 vessels operating on LNG in the word fleet, 21 more than in December 2018.

Another 39 LNG-fuelled vessels are under order and 112 more being ‘LNG ready’. Ferries, container ships and cruises are the sectors that see most investment in this technology.
