CSSC subsidiary to construct two ammonia-ready MPVs for Grieg Maritime Group

China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) subsidiary CSSC Huangpu WenChong Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. recently signed a contract to construct two 82,000 tonnes multi-purpose vessels (MPVs), with an option for two more of such ships, with Norwegian firm Grieg Maritime Group, according to several China-based press.
The ships are ammonia ready and both main and auxiliary machines are equipped with SCR systems to meet Tier III emission requirements. The Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) of the ships is expected to meet the requirements of Stage 3, which is more than 60% lower than the baseline.
The ships are said to be multi-purpose ships with the largest tonnage in CSSC Huangpu WenChong Shipbuilding’s history. In addition to pulp, the vessels can also load wood, bulk cargo, bulky cargo and containers.
The order is expected to meet part of Grieg Maritime Group’s needs for its ship operation over the next 10 years.
An online signing ceremony was held between representatives of both companies with Han Jianbing, deputy general manager of CSSC Huangpu WenChong Shipbuilding, expressing his gratitude to Grieg for its trust and support.
