China: Ningbo-Zhoushan Port completes second bonded LNG bunkering op

Ningbo-Zhoushan Port on Wednesday (21 June) completed its second bonded LNG bunkering for an international voyage ship, according to China-based press.

China’s first self-developed and world’s largest LNG bunkering vessel Hai Yang Shi You 301 delivered LNG bonded bunker fuel to Hapag-Lloyd’s ship Berlin Express via ship-to-ship transfer. 

The refuelling took 16 hours, and refuelled about 6,000 cubic metres (m3) of bonded LNG marine fuel for the Hapag-Lloyd 24,000 TEU series ultra-large container ship on its world’s maiden voyage.

Manifold Times previously reported Hai Yang Shi You 301 performed its first bunkering operation in Ningbo-Zhoushan Port after it was converted from a LNG carrier vessel.

The ship completed Zhejiang’s first ship-to-ship LNG simultaneous operation (SIMOPS) bunkering operation, which meant the containership carried out cargo operations at the terminal while receiving marine fuel simultaneously.

The amount of LNG bunker fuel delivered to containership CMA CGM UNITY reached 9,400 m3 which can easily cover a single voyage from China to Europe. 

The event was also the first time a bonded LNG bunkering operation was completed at Ningbo-Zhoushan Port after the completion of CNOOC Zhejiang LNG Terminal.
