A virtual naming ceremony was conducted on Thursday (26 May) for the first 119,900 dwt LNG (liquefied natural gas) dual-fuel crude oil/product oil tanker, according to International Ship Network.

Bank of Communications Financial Leasing Co., Ltd (Bocomm Leasing) and Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI), both subsidiaries of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, together with Shell named the vessel PROTEUS HARVONNE at a virtual ceremony.

The ship is the first domestically built Aframax tanker (LR II) powered by a LNG dual fuel system, and its successful naming ceremony signalled the completion of the ship.

The ship completed trials while only using LNG as a bunker fuel in three days

Fang Xiuzhi, director of shipping business of Bocomm Leasing, during his speech, said the vessel is the first oil tanker invested by Bocomm Leasing for the global oil giant Shell.

“This project is one of the largest LNG dual-fuel newbuilding projects in the world. It is hoped that BOCOM Leasing, Guangzhou Shipbuilding International and Shell will carry out more cooperation on new LNG dual-fuel tankers in the future,” he said.
