Arrest warrant issued for Exxon Mobil Nigeria exec over failing to show in fraud probe

05 Feb 2021

A Nigerian Federal court judge has issued an arrest warrant for the Managing Director of Exxon Mobil’s local chapter for failing to appear before Nigeria’s anti-graft unit for investigation, reports Bloomberg.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an application to arrest Richard Laing which was approved by Federal Court Judge Okon Abang.

Purportedly, Laing did not respond to three invitations from the EFCC to provide his testimony in the EFCC’s investigation into an alleged fraudulent creation of change orders worth more than USD 213 million in a pipeline project.
