The Norwegian Maritime Authority on Monday (22 December) said it has now been decided that the FuelEU Regulation will not enter into force in Norway from 1 January 2026.
The statement revises a previous announcement by NMA that the regulation could apply from early next year.
On 12 December, the authority informed stakeholders that there was a real possibility that FuelEU Maritime could take effect in Norway at very short notice – potentially as early as 1 January 2026.
“As previously communicated, efforts were made to allow for the Regulation to apply in Norway from 1 January 2026,” NMA said in its latest statement.
“However, it has not been possible to obtain the necessary clarifications between the EEA/EFTA states and with the EU to enable the Regulation to take effect in Norway on that date.”
Entry into force is expected later in 2026. The Norwegian Maritime Authority will provide updates on its website once a more detailed timeline has been confirmed.
