VPS appoints Steve Laino as new Americas Managing Director

Marine fuel quality and surveying firm VPS on Wednesday (18 December) announced the appointment of Steve Laino to the role of Managing Director for the Americas. 

In this role, Laino will apply his experience and knowledge to deliver complete value-chain solutions for fuels, lubricants and decarbonisation in the region. 

Laino joined VPS having held C-suite and leadership roles as a ship owner, broker, entrepreneur and advisor across multiple sectors and markets in the global supply chain. 

Most recently, Laino has applied his subject matter expertise and in-depth understanding of the emerging emissions and alternative fuels sectors in his role as Global Head of Environmental Solutions with Poten & Partners/BGC Partners. 

He has a strong background in shipping, having graduated from the US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, sailed as an officer in the US Merchant Marine and served as Lieutenant Commander in the US Naval Reserve.

Christiania Energy hires Mazlum Unutmaz as Specialist in Bunkers and Lubricants

Christiania Energy, a privately held Danish physical supply and trading company, recently announced that it has appointed Mazlum Unutmaz as Specialist in Bunkers and Lubricants. 

Mazlum, who is based in Odense, Denmark, has a background in logistics, military service and sales and marketing. 

“His day-to-day focus will be to support Ali Hoodaji with our global bunker pool operations, among others,” the company said in a social media post. 

Ali is the Head of Bunker Pool for the company and is based in Copenhagen. 

“Those close to Mazlum, describe him as a loyal, ambitious, and goal-oriented person, with a disciplined mindset. At the same time, he is known for his positive energy, friendliness  and ability to create a good atmosphere around him.”

PMG Energies taps Lina Aaker as Bunker Trading Team Lead in Dubai

Bunker supplier and trading company PMG Energies on Monday (1 June) welcomed Lina Aaker to the PMG Energies team as Bunker Trading Team Lead of its Dubai office.

Aaker brings nearly 20 years of experience in the global bunker industry, having started her career in 2006 in Norway. 

“Over the years, she has built strong expertise in marine fuels, trading, and customer relationship management across international markets,” the company said in a social media post.

FLEX Commodities strengthens bunkering team with new Greece appointment

Dubai-based bunker trading firm FLEX Commodities FZCO (FLEX) on Friday (15 May) said it has appointed Evangelia Tsimpidi as Operator – Physical in Greece. 

The company said Tsimpidi brings over three years of hands-on bunkering experience with Trafigura Maritime Ventures, having worked across Athens and Montevideo managing end-to-end bunker operations in both the ARA region and the US market. 

“In her new role, Eva will be managing physical bunker operations from Greece, bringing direct experience in barge management, physical supply execution, and cross-functional coordination with traders, suppliers, and agents,” the company said in a social media post.

“Her operational depth and market knowledge are a valuable addition as we continue to expand our physical capabilities.”
