Acelen, the largest bunker producer in the Brazilian state of Bahia, on Wednesday (7 August) said it is expanding its marine fuel supply operations in Brazil in collaboration with marine fuel and lube supplier Bunker One.
Starting this month, vessels will be able to refuel at the outer anchorage of Sepetiba in Rio de Janeiro, a strategic port for South Atlantic maritime routes.
“Sepetiba has the capacity to receive large ships, contributing significantly to international trade,” Cristiano da Costa, Executive Vice President of Commercial, Trading, and Shipping at Acelen, said in a social media post.
He said Acelen’s goal is to deliver 20,000 metric tonnes of bunker fuel monthly in Sepetiba, meeting the needs of bulk carriers, large cargo ships, and the oil and gas industry.
“This is an attractive and efficient logistics alternative as it allows for refueling without docking, avoiding interference with loading and unloading operations at terminals,” he added.
Acelen added the initiative will provide a reliable source of supply on a busy route in the South Atlantic, located between the ports of Rio de Janeiro and Santos.
